Mission
Unlock your KeyForge organized play with KeyChain
KeyChain is an unofficial, community-made platform built to supplement and enhance KeyForge organized play through digital rewards, record keeping, local and global leaderboards, personalization, and a progression system designed to encourage players to come back for more.
Playgroups
Playgroups are the cornerstone of how events in KeyChain are organized. They represent the various stores and organizations which host organized play events, and allow these groups to have their own ecosystem to operate within on KeyChain. A player can be a member of any number of playgroups. The individuals who serve as administrators of a playgroup are called Event Organizers (or EOs for short).
How to Join or Create a Playgroup
Join: EOs can add users via their username (case-sensitive) or by scanning the QR code their KeyChain playercard. Additionally: users can send a join request if they have the link to the playgroup’s URL.
Create: If a user is the organizer for a game store or organization, they can use this form to apply to have a new playgroup created.
Premiere Tournaments: These are available to all users automatically in the Premiere Tournaments playgroup.
Playgroup Types
Game Store: A retailer that hosts KeyForge events. (The playgroup’s EOs do not necessarily have to be store staff)
Organization: A non-retail event organization group, independent of a game store, even if they conduct events at game stores.
Global Playgroup: All KeyChain users automatically have access to Global Playgroups without needing to join them. Currently, this exists only for Premier Tournaments.
Master Vault Account Linking
Users can optionally link their Master Vault account to their KeyChain account. Doing so offers a number of benefits:
Allows you to claim results on KeyChain from Premier Tournaments
Lets you scan into events with your KeyChain playercard
Allows EOs to add you to playgroups by scanning your KeyChain playercard.

Progression & Ranking Systems
Level (Lv)
Your Level (Lv) is an at-a-glance view of your overall progression and participation in KeyForge organized play through KeyChain, earned over time by accruing Experience Points (XP). Your level appears on your player profile, and additional personalization items can be unlocked through leveling up. Higher levels generally require more XP to level up.
Experience Points (XP)
Experience Points (XP) are earned for general participation in KeyForge organized play across all playgroups, and serve as the foundation for your overall KeyChain account progression. Earning XP is how you level up. XP is awarded as such:
In-Person Tournaments & Premier Tournaments
Attendance: 25 XP
Match Win: 10 XP
Match Loss: 5 XP
In-Person Open Play
Attendance: 50 XP
Online Tournaments
Attendance: 12 XP
Match Win: 5 XP
Match Loss: 2 XP
Online Open Play
Does not award XP
NOTE: All events have a per XP event cap of 100 XP.
Ranking Points (RP)
Ranking Points (RP) are a leaderboard ranking metric used for determining player placements and standings across events. There are global leaderboards, as well as leaderboards within individual playgroups, which reference earned RP based on the event type:
Tournaments (In-Person & Online): Contributes RP towards global and playgroup leaderboards.
Premier Tournaments: Contributes RP towards the premier playgroup leaderboard only
Open Play: Does not contribute RP towards any leaderboards.
Leaderboards also have associated period timeframes, over which players will collect RP and hope to be crowned champion. Currently, there are three different period lengths supported in KeyChain:
Monthly leaderboards tally RP earned from events held between the first and last day of a given month.
Global monthly leaderboards only factor in the five highest RP scores for a player in that month. This filtered monthly tally is what is considered for global season and all time leaderboards.
Playgroup monthly leaderboards factor all RP scores for a player across all of that playgroup’s events from that month.
Season leaderboard periods span an entire year, from December 1st through November 30th of the following year. These are timed to coincide with Ghost Galaxy’s organized play schedule, ending just after KeyForge Celebration.
Global season leaderboards are calculated by summing each month’s “top 5 events” RP total for all 12 months in that season.
Playgroup season leaderboards factor all RP scores for a player across all of that playgroup’s events from that season.
All Time leaderboards have a single period with no end date.
The global all time leaderboard sums each month’s “top 5 events” RP total for a player.
Playgroup all time leaderboards factor all RP scores for a player across all of that playgroup’s events.
In order for RP to be considered for a given leaderboard, the event must be recorded between the start and end of the relevant period (plus one week). Leaderboard periods lock one week after the close of the period.
